10 Steps to Develop An Abundance Mindset

As we know, our mindset has a significant impact on our life. We don't always control what happens in our life, but we can certainly control how we react to what happens through our mindset.

Research on mindset has shown that the way we think about ourselves and the world around us drastically impacts the way we manage our emotions, the way we learn and grow, how we let go of being a victim to become a creator of our life, our resiliency and also our health.

As defined by Stephen Covey in his book The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, we can either have an abundance mindset or a scarcity mindset.

An abundance mindset is when a person believes there are enough resources and success to share with others while a scarcity mindset is founded on the idea that, if someone else wins or is successful in a situation, we lose; not considering the possibility that we can all win in a given situation. An abundance mindset is based on the concept of "we" while the scarcity mindset is based on the concept of "us and them".

Developing an abundance mindset is a quite beneficial on our journey of transformation as it can help us to live a life full of possibilities without limits, to exude joy no matter what happens, to be giver instead of being a taker, to feel fulfilled and inspired, to take advantage of new opportunities that come our way, to cooperate with others to create better outcomes, and to feel secure and confident in our life.

Here are some ways to create an abundance mindset in our life.

1. Being mindful and aware of our thoughts

By cultivating mindfulness, we can be more present and more aware of our thoughts and notice when we are living in an abundance or scarcity mindset. By noticing our thoughts, we can choose to shift our thoughts from a scarcity mindset to an abundance mindset.

2. Being grateful

Practicing gratitude is one of the most powerful way to live in an abundance mindset. By paying attention to what we already have, we always have more. By paying attention to what we don't have, we never have enough.  Gratitude is an emotion with high vibration. When we are grateful, we feel love and fear disappears.

3. Living in a world of possibilities 

The opposite of abundance is fear. Fear contracts and reduces our confidence. By living in a world of possibilities, we expand what is possible as we realize that we never really fail, we either succeed or we learn.  

4. Being aligned to our life purpose

By being aligned to our life purpose, we can use our talents and gifts to contribute to the world in a way that brings us joy. We can more easily access our zone of genius and rise to our full potential and step into our greatness.

5. Being a giver and not a taker

By giving to others whenever we can to help them grow or contribute to their success, we will receive more than we ever thought possible as others will express their gratitude to us and the universe will contribute to our own success in unexpected ways.  

6. Telling ourselves a different story

We are the story we tell ourselves as our words defines our reality. We can choose to tell ourselves a positive story of abundance and therefore create a new reality.

7. Focusing on our growth

By seeing our life as a school and focusing on our growth and learning, we can see all the events of our life as learning opportunities. Instead of blaming others or complaining when things don't go our way, we can choose to see the lesson that is there for us and how this can prepare us for our future.

8. Thinking like a beginner

The beginner’s mindset is about having the ability to maintain an attitude of openness and enthusiasm, along with the willingness to override existing preconceptions no matter how experienced we are. When we are in an abundance mindset, we crave learning and growth, knowing that we don’t know everything and that we always have more to learn.

9. Noticing what is right with the world.

As humans, most of us have been programmed to notice all that is wrong with the world and how it could be better. It's in our DNA. By letting go of our perfectionism and focusing on seeing all that is right, we reduce our frustration and we can be present to the immense beauty in our world. This can also improve our health as we will be calmer.

10. Embracing personal mastery

Most people are not in control of their emotions and are quick to blame others for their negative emotions. By developing personal mastery and developing our emotional intelligence, we can create our own life experience by choosing the appropriate response to all life situations.

Although it can take some work at first, we can all begin to create an abundance mindset and live a meaningful and fulfilling life by taking actions and choosing to be the creator of our life. We can choose to start living a life of abundance today, as we begin to expand our awareness and notice any scarcity mindset that might arise. Using these steps, we can be on your way toward creating an abundance mindset.
